Designer & High-End Furniture Care

High-end and designer furniture often requires specialized handling, deep materials knowledge, and a level of discretion that general repair shops simply can't offer. Retrophile provides careful repair, refinishing, and conservation for luxury pieces — from mid-century modern icons to contemporary designer originals.

Work is performed with an emphasis on:

  • Preserving original intent and design

  • Using compatible materials and finishes

  • Avoiding irreversible alterations

This service is well-suited for collectors, interior designers, and clients seeking expert care for investment-grade furniture.

The Challenge with High-End Pieces

Designer furniture presents a unique set of challenges. Proprietary finishes, unconventional construction methods, and materials that require sourcing from specialty suppliers all demand experience that generalists don't have. A piece by Knoll, Herman Miller, Baker, Frank Lloyd Wright, or a custom European maker isn't treated the same way as a standard production piece — and it shouldn't be.

Jacob has worked extensively with high-end and designer furniture across a wide range of styles, periods, and construction methods. His approach is always conservative: do what's needed, preserve what's there, and never do anything that can't be undone.

Services for Designer & Luxury Pieces

Six wooden chairs with woven seats arranged in a row against a white brick wall, next to large wooden frames leaning against the wall.
  • Joints, frames, and bases repaired using methods appropriate to the original construction. No generic fixes.

  • Worn, scratched, or damaged finishes carefully matched and restored. Where possible, original finishes are preserved rather than stripped.

  • We work with trusted upholstery partners for pieces that need fabric or leather work, ensuring the whole piece is handled with consistent care.

  • For pieces of particular value or fragility, we can assess and treat for long-term preservation rather than purely cosmetic restoration.

  • For pieces that have been improperly repaired in the past or require structural rebuilding, careful disassembly and correct reassembly.

  • Have you found a collector’s piece on eBay, estate sale, or auction that needs work? We are more than happy to look at a listing, assess the damage, and make a plan for revival.

Discretion and White-Glove Service

Many of our clients with high-end pieces prefer a quiet, professional process. We understand that. Consultations are handled personally and confidentially, and we're happy to coordinate directly with interior designers or estate managers on behalf of clients.

If you're uncertain whether a piece is appropriate for our services, reach out — we're glad to take a look and give you an honest assessment.
